Winnipeg Jets NHL player, Mark Scheifele, was recognized as KW & area’s Athlete of the Year for 2016. Mark has a 30-goal (+17) season and was a gold medalist with Team Canada at the World Championship. The KSA Awards of Excellence recipients were also introduced at the Kitchener Sports Association (KSA) dinner held May 16 at Golf’s Steak House: Individual – Bruce Young, Team – Kitchener Minor Baseball Bantam Tier 1, and Organization – the Waterloo Region Boxing Academy. The local community is a better place for the work these three award recipients do above and beyond their roles in sport.

As we move into the summer season featuring sports such as baseball, outdoor soccer, and water-based activities, some of the recreational programs (e.g. the Bass Derby and T-Ball groups such as Stanley Park, Forest Hill and SouthWest) have already wound things up and others (e.g. softball) are in the process of doing so. KSA itself is on a break from its monthly dinner meetings until September 19, but no problem staying active — there are lots of summer camps and sports for all ages to choose from!
