The 2016 softball season for all Kitchener Minor Girls Softball Association (KMGSA) programs has concluded. This season was a special one as we celebrated our 50th anniversary, had a 20 percent increase in player registration and had a team represent Kitchener at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Nova Scotia.
KMGSA’s recreational program, for ages eight through 19, had 17 teams this season. Regular season games occurred from May to early July with the league finals on July 8-10. KMGSA would like to congratulate all the players on a great season where friendships were made, skills were learnt and sportsmanship was displayed on the field.
The Kitchener Kobras Select program had three teams this year: Squirt, Bantam and Midget. Each participated in a number of tournaments this summer with the Midget team bringing home a gold medal from the Unionville tournament. This was a great experience for all these players and coaches and we hope to see them back again next year.
The Kitchener Klassics Representative program’s eight competitive teams just wrapped up their season with some teams playing as many as 60 games.
These teams competed in many tournaments throughout Ontario this summer and brought home a nice collection of medals and memories: the Mites (U10) had one gold and one silver, the Squirts (U12) had three gold and three silver, the Novices (U14) had four gold and three bronze including Eastern Canadian Bronze and the Midgets (U18) earned two gold, two silver and one bronze.
KMGSA would like to thank all the volunteers, coaches, umpires and players for an outstanding season. KMGSA would also like to thank the City of Kitchener for its support of girls’ softball over the past 50 years and working with KMGSA to make sure our program needs are met.
Without volunteers, KMGSA would not be able to provide these deserving players a fun, safe and secure playing environment. KMGSA is actively looking for more volunteers to help with the upcoming 2017 season. Please contact us if you can spare a few hours a month and would like to volunteer.
