At the Kitchener Sports Association’s November meeting, its 28th annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner, 25 local sports groups took the opportunity to honour one of their key volunteers. Recipients of the awards, and their presenters, were treated to dinner by the KSA and, led by Master of Ceremonies Don Cameron, shared their volunteering experiences. Local minor sports groups depend on their volunteers to be able to operate so there were many heart-felt thank-yous!
KSA, with approval of motions passed by members at the meeting, made two cheque presentations (KidsAbility and Pride Stables) for their capital projects. KSA also presented cheques to ten local sports groups in support of their fee-assistance programs so everyone gets to play.
KSA raises the bulk of its revenue from holding 50/50 draws at Kitchener Rangers home games and utilizes the money in support of local minor athletes, sports groups and charities — over $182,000 in 2015/16. Dinner attendees were recruited to help sell 50/50 tickets at KW Titans basketball games and generate additional funds for the local sports community. The appeal was successful and so was the inaugural draw on December 17.
On behalf of local minor athletes, thanks to the thousands of people who help by purchasing 50/50 tickets, volunteer to help run the minor sports programs and tournaments, and come out to the venues to take in some games and cheer. All aspects of support are appreciated!
KSA holds informal monthly dinner meetings — and you’re invited! Visit kitchenersports.ca for more information.
