The first Eurofit Biggest Loser contest was a fun and exciting way to lose some weight, inches and body fat. I am sure that all the competitors are as appreciative as I am to Olesia and Eurofit for organizing the contest and providing ongoing support.
I have found that as each decade passes, the harder it is to keep “in shape” and losing weight is tougher and tougher. Dieting alone just doesn’t work; you need the exercise — and the expertise and support of a great personal trainer to motivate you. “The pot of gold” reward incentive helps too!
My biggest challenge was to get those litres of water in daily and no snacking after dinner. Keeping busy in the evening helped but, I will admit, there were some little “cheats” in there. Weighing myself each day also helped me realize that those little cheats do show up!
Keeping to the basics was my strategy. I grew up in the late 1950s and 1960s and fewer people had weight concerns. I attribute that to no fast-food joints on every corner; you sat down for a home-cooked meal using no boxed or canned foods and the dinner plates were smaller! It was also a slower paced and safer time on the streets so you walked everywhere (or biked). I tried to go back to these basics: lots of vegetables, two to three proteins a day — and just stayed away the starchy carbs.
My biggest sacrifice was cheese. I am sure I was a mouse in a former life, as I love cheese and lots of it. I am not a drinker so that was not an issue. On the weekends, if fast food was on the menu: a Wendy’s small chili and a side salad created a nice taco salad and I even included the sour crème as a treat. I also enjoyed a slice of pizza every now and then, but made sure I had a salad or raw veggies first to fill me up to prevent eating more than one slice.
I found that as I age, I do not eat as much, or need to eat as much to keep going. My metabolism took a trip down south years ago and never returned but my journey is not over. I will continue to work with Olesia at Eurofit and maintain healthy eating habits. I learned that a treat every now and then is good so you don’t feel deprived, but you do need to the support of others to keep you on track!
A huge shout out to all the Eurofit Biggest Loser competitors! The competition was fun and really pushed me to be successful. I am already looking forward to the next competition!
